Who are we?

1 - A LOVING COMMUNITY (Belong)

A loving community of God's people which would train and equip its members into missionary activity both here and beyond. This would be characterised by prophetic preaching, creative worship, culturally effective witness, faith-challenging resourcing of others ad relational and intentional networking with others both local and overseas"

2 - DEVOTED WORSHIPERS (Believe)

We want to be people who are devoted to worshipping Jesus. We want to carve out time daily to be alone for prayer and Bible reading. We make time to join with others to pray and study His Word. We regularly celebrate the Lord’s Supper and can’t stop thanking Him for His mercy. These are not obligations we try to squeeze in, but cravings we can’t live without. We don’t require gifted communicators or musicians; we just love to worship Jesus even in the most basic settings. It is the Object of worship that makes worship exciting to us.

3 - LOVING FAMILIES (Be Part)

The body of believers is supposed to be closer to us than our own families (Matt. 12:46, Luke 14:26). Jesus said that "all people will know you are my disciples if you love for one another" (John 13:35). He also prayed that his disciples would be so "perfectly one" that the world may believe that the Father sent Jesus (John 17:20-23).  We want to be people who love each other deeply and show this by our sacrifice. We seek a bond that surpasses that of our natural families and is only possible because of our common fellowship with Jesus. We share our possessions and our lives with each other. We seek to obey all of the “one another” commands in Scripture. Christ wants us to be known for our love, and He claimed that our unity would cause others to believe in Him. Our goal is not merely to get along but to love each other to the extent that Christ loved us, and to be united to the extent that the Father is one with the Son.

4 - EQUIPPED DISCIPLE-MAKERS (Be trained)

We want our people to become fully trained for greater works of service. We believe that all believers are called be disciple-makers. No one should come as a consumer, but all should come as servants. The Holy Spirit has given each of us a gift that is to be used for building up the body. We want our leaders to teach us how to lead and help us develop in character through their modelling and teaching. Our goal is that each one of us becomes like Christ, and develops the ability to lead others to Him, make disciples, and plant churches.

5 - SPIRIT-FILLED MISSIONARIES (Be sent)

We want to be people with supernatural character, focused on sharing the gospel with neighbours and coworkers. We want to be people who are not focused on survival or higher standards of living but devoted to the mission. For some, this will mean going to foreign countries to share Christ where He has not been heard. For others, this means supporting those who have gone. For everyone, it means sharing the gospel regularly.

OUR FOUNDATIONS

There are 5 fundamental foundations on which our church ministry is built and operates on. We endeavour to have these five foundations well expressed and active in all we do as a church, we hope it helps you to understand a bit more about who we are and why we do what we do.

1 - M I S S I O N

We believe that it is the duty and privilege of every disciple of Jesus to bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and in the power of the Holy Spirt to take part in the evangelisation of the world beginning where they are.

Matthew 28:19-20 - 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

2 - P R O P H E C Y

We believe that God continues to reveal his heart to his people through prophetic expressions today just like he did to and through the early church,  however, prophecy must never replace scripture but must always to points to Jesus and to be in line with the authority and guidance of scripture under the Holy Spirt's guidance. Every prophetic expression must be made accountable within a local church in order to promote the faith and hope of God's people locally and beyond.

3 - W O R S H I P

Worship is a central focus of our ministry here at Leith Baptist Church. We are committed to finding ways of giving glory to our God which bring delight to Him and give Him a platform to transform people’s lives. Worship is primarily to God, for God and about God but amazingly as we release our praise and open our hearts to Him during worship, He reaches down and brings freedom, forgiveness, healing, deliverance and His salvation because He loves to inhabit the midst of our praise and worship.

4 - P R A Y E R

We believe that prayer is fundamental to nurture our relationship with God also it is through prayer that his presence and promises  are made real to us on earth as it is in heaven. God hears every word that we pray to Him. He is waiting and willing to listen to our worries and needs. Whether we are seeking forgiveness, strength, or healing, prayer provides the channel to communicate with God and receive supernatural strength and power today wherever we may be!

5 - T H E   W O R D   O F  G O D

The Bible is God's timeless and flawless written word for humanity and His Son Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour is the sole and absolute Authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice of our lives on earth, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
